I come from a competitive background - a swimmer from the age-group ranks through college, I'm still competitive today.  I train and race as much as possible, and find my love for sport grows every day.  I am a certified USA Triathlon coach, and am active in the triathlon community.

I began running in 2000 in an attempt to "get in shape".  I was 30 pounds overweight and I needed to do something.  I started running on a treadmill.  After my first 3/4 mile run I was destroyed.  My eyes were sunk in, and I had the complexion of non-fat milk.  But I kept at it.  With the support of my wife, and a good friend of mine, I increased my mileage and eventually ventured off the treadmill and onto the roads.  Soon I was looking forward to the Sunday long run.  Before I knew it I was signed up for my first marathon.  I still wasn't in great shape, but I was getting there.  I began to love running

To take things to the next level, I joined a local running club.  This, along with a dietary makeover thanks to my wife, really helped move me in the right direction.  My weight was dropping, I was getting faster, and I was feeling great.  Soon I was looking for other outlets to increase my outdoor activities.  While considering the purchase of a kayak (long story), a fellow runner - upon hearing about my swimming background - suggested I buy a bike instead and try out a triathlon.  Four months later, and with a sprint triathlon under my belt, I was hooked.  I soon began to improve and discovered the joy of reaching the age-group podium.  From that point on, I knew that triathlons were something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I entered into the coaching ranks because of my love of the sport and my desire to help others embrace and enjoy the community that is triathlon.  I have worked with athletes of all levels:  Overall podium finishers, age group winners, middle of the pack finishers, and athletes revisiting triathlons after multi-year hiatus.
